Today, Moscow is a home to all the world religions - Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and Buddhism, which are officialy recognized as traditional religions on the level of the Federal Government. But still, the history and culture of Russia is inseparable from Christianity, in its Eastern, Orthodox form. At times of Trouble it was Christianity that held this huge country together, and today 25 years after Perestroika, Orthodox Christianity experiences a true revival. Monasteries, once derelict and ruined, are restored, and grand cathedrals are brought back to life in their former grandeur.
